Set aside for a moment the dreams of Thanksgiving and pumpkin pie just a week away and make time for budget season. Today, Wednesday, and tomorrow, Thursday, you will have your chance to speak about the proposed 2009 budgets for Yakima County and the city of Sunnyside.
The location for both budget hearings is about as convenient as you can get, the Law and Justice Center in Sunnyside. Yakima County will hold its Lower Valley budget hearing tonight at 7 p.m. and the city of Sunnyside will have a budget hearing at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow, Thursday, as part of a regular council meeting moved to that night.
If you're content with the budgets being proposed, fair enough.
But if you're not sure about the cuts both entities are proposing, for example police in Sunnyside and jail beds at the county for juvenile graffiti offenders, make time for budget time tonight and tomorrow and make yourself heard.
This will probably be one of the last chances you have to comment on the 2009 budgets or tell council and/or commissioners how you feel about the proposals.
If you don't make time for budget time, the only complaining you'll be able to do about budgets, salaries, taxes and costs will be to the mirror because you will have missed your chance.
Again, the Yakima County 2009 budget will be presented for comment at 7 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, at the Sunnyside Law and Justice Center. The city of Sunnyside's 2009 budget will be presented for comment tomorrow, Thursday, at 6:30 p.m. in the Sunnyside Law and Justice Center.
I'll see you there.
