Mabton police investigating threatening internet behavior that targets Halloween night

MABTON - An individual's use of the popular website has launched a Mabton police investigation and set the rumor mill ablaze in this small city.

Many residents voiced concern following last night's regularly scheduled city council meeting about activity on the website that appears to be of a threatening nature and targets Oct. 31 as a specific date that something potentially bad may happen.

According to Police Chief Robert Perales, many citizens are concerned and up in arms over content on the site that appears to be threatening.

Perales said, "We're investigating some allegedly threatening behavior that was (posted) on the (website)."

Perales kept mum on what the website states and an attempt made by the Daily Sun News to find the postings on the internet site yielded no results.

"A lot of people are reading into it extreme violence, (like a) shooting," Perales said, adding that the police department has no solid proof that is the case. "But we are taking it very, very seriously."

He said that the primary concern is that something is going to happen on Halloween. For that reason, citizens can expect "massive police coverage" on that day.

He said, "There's no specific threat. But it's spreading like wildfire in the community."

"We are pursuing the matter very aggressively, and we are making progress in our investigation."
