I would like to thank Sunnyside City Councilwoman Carol Stone for her attempt to protect my crappy lifestyle here in Sunnyside by voting against pay increases for city department heads.
I can always count on Stone to act in the interests of the citizens here, and that is why she will always have my vote. She not only attempts to hold the line on spending, but she can be seen at every community event and every ribbon cutting of every new business in Sunnyside, as well as pulling on a pair of gloves to weed flower beds on city property.
Personally, if I were head of a department in which services to the public or personnel had to be cut, I would be embarrassed to accept an increase in pay at a time when the city budget is in trouble. Instead, I might be asking myself what I could have done to hold the line so the city would not be in this fix.
But then what do I know...I'm just a crappy Sunnyside citizen who has earned Councilman Bill Gant's scorn. (By the way, I've never seen him at a ribbon-cutting or getting his hands dirty for the good of our city.)
I would also like to take this opportunity to remind Mr. Gant that it was not one of us ordinary citizens who went out and made a deal that cost the city of Sunnyside millions of dollars it obviously could not afford for a piece of land that was offensive to our olfactory senses. I believe that was one of the "highly trained professionals" who was leading our city at the time.
