Cutting to the Core

Car problems: chapter 3

I'm beginning to understand what it feels like to be a hot-looking chick.

My most recent car recently gave up the ghost on me and I've been forced to visit car dealerships. Man, is that creepy.

I'm not talking about all car dealers and for the record, I'm not even talking about car dealers in Yakima County. But do they have to look at you like you're a fresh piece of meat when you pull up.

I recently went to one dealership, in Benton County mind you, and I felt like what a really hot chick who walks into a seedy bar must feel like.

All eyes were on me and I could feel the lust emanating from the sales guys. All this while I was still in my rental.

The sales guys were jockeying for position until one finally stepped out the door and greeted me as I walked up. I had to supress a shiver.

I then took the obligatory test drive and was asked not how much I wanted to pay for the vehicle but what kind of monthly payments I wanted to make. I love this question.

To be honest, I wasn't too impressed with the vehicle. But that didn't stop the salesman from trying to get me to purchase the car right then.

"What can I do to get you to drive this car away today," I was asked.

"I don't know," I replied.

The game of let me ask my boss something began and I had to wait a while until the salesman came back out with a remarkable deal for me. When I didn't accept that and told him I wanted to look around, he had to go back to talk to his boss for a quick second, leaving me to wait for another 10 minutes.

When I finally got out of there I felt like I had to take a shower in the battered woman's pose.

But I must be strong, for I need a car. I'm just hoping I can find a decent car, at a decent price, from a decent car dealer.
