Lucky 13 for Sunnyside Little Grapplers

PROSSER - The number 13 proved to be lucky for the Sunnyside Little Grapplers wrestling team as 13 wrestlers took home first place honors from a tournament in Prosser last Saturday.

Sunnyside Little Grapplers Coach Daniel Guillen said 37 of the 61 wrestlers Sunnyside took to the Prosser tournament left with hardware.

Earning championships in the five and six-year-old division were Julian Chavez, Andrew Macias and Juan Macias Jr., Silvestre Cortes Jr., Daniel Cardenas and Fabian Chavez took first place honors in the seven and eight-year-old division, and teammates Jesse Barajas, Oscar Noriega and Salvador Madrigal brought home first place hardware in the 11 and 12-year-old division. Fidel Medina was the lone Sunnyside champion in the 13 and 14-year-old division.

Taking home second place honors for the Sunnyside team were Eli Barajas, Eric Cortes, Nathan Martinez and Noah Lopez (5-6); Nathan Guzman, Ethan Montelongo and Victor Ochoa (7-8); Jacob Mendoza and Desmond Rodriguez (9-10); Fabian Torres, Anthony Chavez and Angel Ochoa (11-12); and Pedro Cardenas and Daniel Guillen (13-14).

Coming in third place in their respective age divisions were Ingacio Payan Jr. (5-6); Alan Ochoa, Alexis Padilla, Guillermo Reyes and Jayden Lopez (7-8); and Omar Madera, Emilio Rangel, Sylvester Rodriguez, Phil Blankenship and Christian Chavez (11-12).

The Sunnyside Little Grapplers will next travel to Mattawa for a tournament to be held at Wahluke High School on Saturday, April 4, at 10 a.m.
