MABTON - Last night all was well for the Mabton Vikings, as they blanked the visiting Goldendale Timberwolves soccer team 7-0.
Vikings Hector Brambila and Carlos Camacho fired up the team with goals at the 18 and 37-minute marks of the first half, respectively.
Mabton coach Andy Dyer said, "We played as a team and have improved a lot." He was proud of the efforts put forth by the Vikings last night and attributed the victory to the fact that "...we stuck to our game plan."
In the second half of the game, Olegario Sanchez scored against the Timberwolves at the 12-minute mark and again 26 minutes later.
Brambila tossed in another goal for the Vikings 21 minutes into the second half and teammate Tony Espinoza also scored twice at the 26-minute mark and the 31-minute mark.
"I was impressed with our guys," said Dyer, adding Mabton must now take its success and continue to grow as a team. He said there is a great deal of preparation that must be done before the Vikings travel to Highland this coming Saturday.
"We had over 30 shots on goal (yesterday) and we need to bring our percentage up," he explained.
Mabton's JV squad also fared well last night, earning a 3-0 victory over Toppenish's 'C' team.
Goals for the Viking JV team came in the second half from the efforts of Josh Sanchez, who scored at the 17-minute mark, and two more were scored by Guillermo Macedo 28 minutes into the second half and again at the 38-minute mark.
Mabton's varsity team improved its overall record to 3-4 with the victory over the Timberwolves, and this Saturday's match-up against Highland begins at 1 p.m.
