Mabton's Vasquez two-time winner at Royal City meet

ROYAL CITY - Mabton athletes trekked to Royal City this past Saturday to compete in the fourth annual Ron Vanderholm Invite and Sara Vazquez was the only Mabton athlete to walk away with first place finishes.

Vazquez placed first in the 1,600 meters, clocking in at 6:03.81, eight seconds ahead of second place finisher Kayla Newton of St. John-Endicott.

Vazquez also earned top honors in the 3,200 meters, finishing in 12:59.47. In this race, too, Vazquez had an eight-second lead over second place finisher Ariana Cole of Highland.

Vazquez placed second in the 800 meters, clocking in at 2:40.50. Kittitas's Natalie Gibb finished the run in 2:33.21 for first place honors.

Mabton's girls finished 11th out of 20 teams. The Mabton boys placed 19th out of 19 teams.
