James Delbert Streber, 85, of Grandview, died Thursday, April 23, 2009, at his home.

He was born Dec. 20, 1923 to Harry James and Nannie Ada (Carter) Streber in Tuttle, Okla. He served in the U.S. Navy from August 1941 until November 1945 in the South Pacific. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor, serving on the USS New Orleans.

On Aug. 4, 1943, he married Ruby C. Aarestad in Seattle.

He is survived by his daughters, Judy Cervantes of Mabton and Carmen Streber of Grandview; six grandchildren; and six great- grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one daughter, Ruby Michelle; four sisters; and two brothers.

Viewing and visitation will be held Wednesday, April 29, 2009, from 9 until 11 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home, with military conducted graveside services to follow at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens.
