Denzel Warren Belton, 89, of Grandview passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, April 24, 2009.

He was born April 11, 1920 to James H. and Alice T. (Maycroft) Belton in Deer Park. He received his early education in Deer Park. He served in the Army Corp of Engineers during World War II.

On March 11, 1948, he married Lois Marie Wright in Sunnyside. Denzel worked construction and was a carpenter. He owned and operated Belton & Belton Construction and worked for Butler Manufacturing out of Kansas City, Mo.

He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and camping. Denzel looked forward to annual camping and fishing trips to Canada. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #6929.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lois of Grandview; his children, Earl Belton of Yakima, Bill Belton (Linda) of Spokane, Jim Belton of Yakima and Dorene Bishop (Boyce) of Grandview; 16 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; and one brother, Bert Belton of Redding, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Arnold, Harvey, Loren, Lyle and Orville; one sister, Velda Zyph; and one great-granddaughter, Desiree Davis.

Viewing and visitation will be held Thursday, April 30, 2009, from 4 until 8 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside. Graveside services will be held Friday, May 1, 2009, at 1 p.m. at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside.
