The Sunnyside City Council this past Monday approved several amendments to the 2009 budget.
Most of the items presented by interim finance director Robert Nolan are compensated expenses.
For example, the amendments includes the hiring of a new police officer and the hiring of two security officers for the hospital. The police officer position is funded by a grant and the two security officers are paid by the hospital.
The two largest items not compensated by a grant or outside sources are a budget increase of $100,000 for attorney fees following the resignation of former City Attorney Mark Kunkler, and $50,000 for interim finance director services following the resignation of former Finance Director Jordan Arreola.
In some good budget news, council learned that revenues are exceeding expectations and that the city should end 2009 with about $2.7 million left in the general fund, $1 million more than originally estimated.
