Candlelight vigil to honor children who have died

Sunnyside Presbyterian Church in conjunction with "The Compassionate Friends," a group dedicated to supporting those grieving the loss of a child, will host a candlelight vigil Sunday, Dec. 13, to honor children who have died.

The Compassionate Friends, a national organization, each year holds a candle vigil on the second Sunday in December to commemorate and honor children, siblings and grandchildren who have perished.

Sunnyside Presbyterian Church, seeing a need to support grieving families in the community who have lost a child, has joined the group's efforts.

The event is free and doors open at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 13.

Family and friends of children who have died will read the children's names as candles are lit beginning at 7 p.m.

"It is my hope that this remembrance service will give the community the opportunity to come together and remember their loved ones," said Daria Miller.

She said there will be tables available on which pictures and mementos of the children being remembered can be displayed.

"Light a candle for all children that have passed away, let their light forever shine," Miller suggested.

For more information about the event, she can be contacted at 840-0746.
