Augustina G. Rodriguez, 72, of Grandview passed away on Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009, at Prosser Memorial Hospital. She was born March 12, 1937 in Edinburg, Texas to Eduardo and Luisa (Garcia) Garza.

As a child she lived in Texas, until moving to Washington State with her mother and oldest brother, Osvaldo Garza. She later met and married her husband of 56 years, Carlos R. Rodriguez. Their oldest child was born in Washington. Augustina and her husband, Carlos, then moved back to Edinburg, where they had six more children.

The Rodriguez family moved back to Washington with Carlos' mother to make a living in the Yakima Valley and had five more children.

Augustina cherished her family. She lived for her children and for her many, many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She enjoyed gardening, going on trips and collecting antiques from second hand stores.

Augustina is survived by her husband, Carlos R. Rodriguez; her children, Sylvia (Jose) Delgado of Warrenton, Ore., Blanca (Guadalupe) Vera of Grandview, Carlos Rodriguez Jr. of Kelso, Jose Rodriguez of Aberdeen, Maria Rodriguez of Pasco, Luisa (Felipe) Quintero of Woodburn, Ore., Normalinda (Jesus) Lino of Caldwell, Idaho, Santos (Susie) Negrete of Warrenton, Ore., Roberto (Mary) Rodriguez and Jenaro (Delia) Rodriguez, both of Yakima and Idolina (Isreal) Patino of Kennewick; 36 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; her special nephew, Jesse (Ester) Adame; her brother-in-law, Uvence Resendez; nephew, Felipe Resendez; brothers, Nicolas (Rosita) Sanchez of Granger, Vincent "Vinne" Sanchez of Ephrata, Francisco (Maggie) Sanchez of Connell; and her only sister, Elena Barrera of Connell.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Eduardo and Luisa G. Garza; her brother, Osvaldo Garza; two daughters, Juanita and Santos Rodriguez; her stepfather, Vincente Sanchez; brother-in-law, David Barrera; and three grandchildren.

Viewing and visitation will be held Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009, from 3 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 6 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Grandview. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009, at 10 a.m., with burial to follow at Grandview Cemetery in Grandview.
