Grandview School District inherits $400,000

GRANDVIEW - A former school superintendent has bequeathed more than $400,000 to the Grandview School District for college scholarships.

Darrell Smith, who also served as principal in the district, left it up to Grandview School Board officials as to how the funds will be disbursed.

At their regularly scheduled meeting this past Monday night, no action was taken regarding scholarship distribution. A meeting is slated for Jan. 25, but a time is as of yet undetermined.

Grandview Supt. Kevin Chase said Smith was a longtime Grandview educator, Rotarian, American Legion and Lion's Club member, and was also a member of the Salvation Army Board of Directors.

"Mr. Smith's gift will change families in our community for generations to come," Chase said. "He understand the power of an education to change lives."
