Robbery suspect in custody

Sunnyside police have arrested an individual they believe is responsible for at least two armed robberies in Sunnyside.

The man robbed Hiway Fruit last night just before 9 p.m. He showed the clerk a gun and demanded money. He then left and was later arrested at El Valle Restaurant.

Sunnyside police were at the restaurant at the time investigating a report that suspects from Monday's triple homicide in Mattawa were at the restaurant. The armed robbery suspect was a member of that group.

It is unclear just how many people were arrested last night but police have confirmed it was a group of people, both male and female.

None of the individuals arrested last night have been charged with a crime yet. Charlotte Hinderlider, administrative assistant to the Sunnyside Police Chief, said the individuals are under investigation at this time.

"There are a lot of pieces to this and we have 72 hours to put them together," she said.

Police are not releasing the name of the robbery suspect at this time.
