Mabton continues council meeting to next Monday

MABTON - With Mayor-elect Angel Reyna unable to attend and some final touches needed on the 2010 budget, the Mabton City Council this past Tuesday evening continued its meeting to next Monday.

No action was taken during Tuesday's meeting other than to approve vouchers.

Also, there was no public comment during a pair of public hearings on the 2010 budget and Mabton's comprehensive plan. Council will take action on both during next Monday's continued meeting.

During a study session prior to last night's council meeting, council members asked for some language to be changed in a proposed ordinance that assesses a $10 penalty for water and sewer payments made late. The changes include having the $10 late fee paid at the time of payment instead of adding it to the next month's bill. The other change is assessing the $10 penalty for utility bills paid after the 20th of each month.

Council had sought to have the deadline on the 15th of each month, but opted to give five more days since some senior citizens receive their Social Security checks after the 15th.
