PASCO - Only one Grandview High School wrestler placed at the Best of the West wrestling tournament held in Pasco late last week.
Grandview finished 25th out of 31 teams with 16 points. The tournament was won by Hermiston with 261 points. Southridge High School finished second with 110 points and host Pasco was seventh with 72 points.
Marco Gonzalez (125 lbs.) was the lone Grandview wrestler to place, taking fourth. He pinned Gary Johansen of Evergreen in 2:39 in the first round of the single-elimination tournament. In the second round Gonzalez got past Dobbin Le of Prairie High School by a score of 6-2. In the quarter-finals Gonzalez pinned Quinter Grimmage of Lewiston in 48 seconds. He then lost to Omar Suarez of Moses Lake in the semi-finals by a pin in 3:42. He also lost in the third/fourth place match to Blaze Larsen of Southridge 17-5.
The only other Greyhound wrestler to get a win on the second day of the tourney was Isaac Perez (130 lbs.). He beat Ben Tynan of Hanford by pin in 5:01 but then lost to Southridge High School's Conner Rosane by a pin in 1:35.
The first day of the tournament each team wrestled four duals. Grandview compiled a 3-1 record in those match-ups.
