Mabton man arrested in Sunnyside

A 25-year-old Mabton man was arrested in Sunnyside last night on a charge of second degree burglary.

Sunnyside Police Officer Skip Lemmon responded to a report of a possible burglary at Te Teo's Car Toys in the 400 block of Yakima Valley Highway at 11 p.m. last night, Wednesday.

Upon arrival Officer Lemmon said he saw a male kneeling down behind the building surrounded by broken glass. Once the suspect saw Officer Lemmon he fled on foot. After a short chase the suspect, Eleuterio Prieto Jr. of Mabton, was apprehended by Officer Lemmon and Sunnyside Police Sgt. Preston Kelley.

Prieto was taken to the Sunnyside City Jail and will be transported to the Yakima County Jail today.

In other police news, a burglary and four thefts were reported in Sunnyside since yesterday.

The burglary occurred in the 3900 block of Outlook Road.

The thefts included two stolen vehicles and two reports of shoplifters.

Also since yesterday, police have dealt with one animal complaint, one report of a controlled substance, one report of disorderly conduct, one report of domestic violence, one fight, one intoxicated person, one missing person, one 9-1-1 hang up call, two suspicious people or situations, three traffic stops, two reports of trespassing and one vehicle prowl.

Police also served two arrest warrants, assisted one agency and three citizens.
