GOLDENDALE - Fresh on the heals of an agonizing Friday night loss to Granger, Mabton's Lady Vikings bounced back last night, Monday, to defeat the Goldendale Timberwolves 60-48.
"We put that loss to Granger behind us really quick," said Mabton Coach Chris McCallum. "The intensity was there."
The Lady Vikings faced quite a challenge in Goldendale point guard Tracey Bailey, who tallied 20 points for the Timberwolves.
McCallum said he didn't want his club to give up that many points...but that girl (Bailey) was on fire, he added.
So was Mabton. Especially Lady Viking Ana Jimenez, who scored most of her 15 points on the night in the third quarter.
Mabton was up by 10 points going into the half. By the end of the third quarter the score was 49-35 in Mabton's favor.
McCallum noted that Mabton only had nine turnovers last night, compared to 26 in last Friday night's loss against Granger.
"We took care of the ball a little bit better," McCallum said.
Mabton's Crysta Reynolds finished the night with 11 points and teammate Trishi Williams scored nine points. Melissa Gutierrez chipped in six points, Teri Flores scored four points and Cayla Campbell scored five points. Brizi Enriquez and Cassandra Martinez each scored two points.
Mabton (2-1, 9-2) next plays at Highland this coming Friday.
