Around Feb. 20 the registered voters in the Sunnyside School District will receive a ballot for the March 10 school bond. I am writing to encourage my fellow voters to continue their support of education in our area.
The taxpayers in the Sunnyside School District have been blessed with great financial management of district assets for more than 30 years. We continue to have the lowest school tax rate of any district off the Yakama reservation in the county.
At this time the board is asking us to help them continue their prudent fiscal management. By passing this bond our tax rates will stay the same but we will get over $35 million in state matching funds, which will allow the district to expand and modernize the high school, as well as build a kitchen at Sun Valley Elementary.
Please note that if you vote against this bond our tax rate does not go down, it still stays the same. We will just be unable to maximize the current opportunity to access $35 million in state matching funds.
Please take the time to open your ballot, check "approve" and mail it back to the county.
