Life Options switches fundraiser from golf scramble to 2-mile walk

GRANDVIEW - In an effort to expand participation, Life Options in Grandview will forego its annual golf fundraiser for a two-mile fundraising walk, slated for April 25.

"We chose a walk because not everyone can golf," said Life Options Executive Director Jan McDonald.

For this event, she joked, "You can walk, stroll, use a wheelchair, even crawl if you want."

McDonald said the route starts at the Grandview Market Place on Euclid Road and those participating will use the pathway to walk down to the overpass just pass Ameristar gas station, then turn around and head back.

"I picked the route for safety. This is sidewalk and bike path all the way," she added.

There is no registration fee to participate, but walkers are encouraged to get sponsors. There's no set amount to donate, rather McDonald said she'd like to see people donate "what their hearts tell them to donate."

Commemorative t-shirts will also be available. Corporate sponsors of the event, which McDonald is currently seeking, will have the name of their business featured on the back of the shirts.

McDonald said the golf tourney pulled in between $12,000 and $20,000, depending on the year. She hopes the walk will raise $36,000.

The theme for the walk is "To Leave a Legacy."

Says McDonald, "It's our job to make this valley a better place for our kids so they can stay here with their families and have successful lives.
