I am really amazed at the disrespect that some of the citizens of Sunnyside have shown during the South First Street upgrade.
I live on South First Street and I know first-hand the pain it has been putting up with the detour signs, noise, dust and the inconvenience of the construction while trying to get home from work.
The signs that are in place say "CLOSED TO THRU TRAFFIC, LOCAL TRAFFIC ONLY." Does no one in Sunnyside know what that means? I have watched people spin cookies in the gravel, leap off 3-5 foot drops, ram the orange barrels that have landed in my yard, and write their name in fresh cement. It is crazy!
The police department could of made at least $50,000 writing tickets to all the people the disregarded the "ROAD CLOSED SIGNS", which is a very low estimate.
Talking to some of the construction bosses and flaggers working on the job, I know that they cannot wait to be done and get out of Sunnyside because of the problems they have had to encounter while just trying to do their job. It will be a nice road, so people just wait and let them finish it and then come and drive on it.
