An account in use since 1981 became official earlier this past month when the Sunnyside City Council approved a police investigative fund.
The action was necessary because during a recent state audit city staff was unable to locate a resolution or ordinance establishing the fund.
The city has been through audits in the past but the lack of a resolution for the fund had never been an issue.
The $10,000 contained in what is called the Investigative Revolving Fund is under the dual supervision of the police department and the city's finance department.
Police Chief Ed Radder told council that the funds are used as a way to access money for drug buys and to pay for information.
