MABTON - With Catholic Charities Housing Services Director Mario Villanueva and New Life Homes Program Director Isabel Garcia giving a brief presentation to the Mabton City Council, the city's $665,000 community development block grant was closed out after a public hearing last night.
Two citizens showed up for the public hearing.
The New Life Homes subdivision in Mabton is a project of Catholic Charities Housing Services, but as Villanueva pointed out to council last night, the project would not have been possible without the city agreeing to be the sponsor for the grant.
The housing sub-division is located near Artz-Fox Elementary School in Mabton and is for first-time home buyers.
Garcia explained to the council that 23 of the proposed 32 houses have been completed and two more houses began being built this week. That leaves seven houses left to be started in the sub-division. The plan is to have everything finished by spring 2010.
The houses are three to four bedrooms, are green building compliant, are equipped with two-car garages and kitchen appliances are included.
