Nidia Hernandez, the daughter of Cristina and Anselmo Hernandez, will compete for the title of Miss Sunnyside come September.

Mario Carranza, 29, of Mattawa passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2009, due to injuries sustained in an auto accident.

He was born Nov. 11, 1979 in Sunnyside to Jose and Soledad (Ramirez) Carranza.

He received his education in Mattawa and received his GED.

Mario worked for several wineries in Paterson.

He enjoyed old cars, music, family and friends.

He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church.

He is survived by his parents, Jose and Soledad Carranza; three brothers, Jose of Texas and Javier and Carlos, both of Mattawa; five sisters, Celia of Mexico, Elena of Sunnyside, and Patty, Maria and Silvia, all of Mattawa; his grandmother, Aurora Jimenez of Mattawa; his Godmother, Betty Macias; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Viewing and visitation will be held Monday, July 20, 2009, from 2 until 5 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside, with a Rosary to be recited at 6 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sunnyside. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sunnyside, with burial to follow at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside.
