Sunnyside plans hearings on July 27

The Sunnyside City Council's regularly scheduled meeting for next Monday, July 27, had been cancelled earlier this month. It's now back on, as at 6:30 p.m. there will be two public hearings.

One hearing is to review public comments regarding annexation and zoning for the former G&S Cattle Company land at the corner of Highway 241 and Sheller Road.

The property owner, Neil Shelden, has sought to put housing on the 16-acre site.

This hearing is a closed record hearing, which means previous comments, evidence and testimony will be considered.

Also on July 27, council will hold a public hearing to gather comment on an airport overlay plan that proposes to regulate land use on properties near the airport runway. Residential use would be restricted on properties within a 1,000-foot boundary of the runway.

If approved as is, the boundary would include a four-acre portion of Shelden's property at Sheller and Highway 241.

The airport overlay hearing is intended to provide citizens an opportunity to comment and provide evidence and testimony regarding the proposed airport overlay plan.
