Corey Russell was right on with his column about beggars. If you truly want to deal with a beggar, never offer them cash. Offer to physically buy a meal for them or to pay for the gas to the station attendant, etc.

If they act offended, then you sniffed out someone truly not in need.

There are ways to be smart and compassionate, without punishing those truly in need of compassion.
