Accident sends 15-year-old to Harborview

GRANDVIEW - The Washington State Patrol was called to the scene of a two-vehicle accident at the corner of Stover and Puterbaugh roads near Grandview just before 6 p.m. this past Sunday.

Driving a 1994 Jeep Cherokee westbound on Puterbaugh Road was 15-year-old Omar Coria from Sunnyside. WSP troopers say he failed to stop at the intersection at Stover Road and the vehicle was struck by a 2001 Chevrolet pick-up driven by Marty Homan, 45, of Prosser.

The Jeep careened into a power line and then a nearby structure made of concrete.

Homan's vehicle spun and quickly was engulfed in flames, but he and his two passengers, Macauley, 16, and Josh Homan, 12, were able to escape the pick-up.

Coria and his three passengers were not as fortunate.

Injuries were sustained by Coria, who was airlifted to Harborview, and two of his passengers, who were transported to a nearby hospital for their injuries.

They are 16-year-old Miguel Acevedo and 17-year-old Isidro Acevedo of Sunnyside.

A third passenger, David Valdez Coria, 18, did not sustain serious injuries as a result of the accident.

Both vehicles, according to the Washington State Patrol, were totaled and towed from the scene.

Alcohol or drugs are not suspected to be involved in the crash, and all victims were wearing safety belts.
