Maria L. Almaguer, 55, of Sunnyside went to be in the arms of her heavenly Father on Friday, May 29, 2009, at Yakima Regional Hospital.
Maria was born March 10, 1954 in Edinburg, Texas, the daughter of Arturo and Ofelia (Hernandez) Mercado.
She received her education in Mabton.
In 1974 she married John George Almaguer in Prosser.
Maria worked as a farm laborer.
She was a very giving person, who loved to entertain and make people laugh.
She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, baking, listening to music and traveling.
Maria was a member of the Cornerstone Assembly of God in Sunnyside.
She is survived by her long-time companion, Daniel Hart of Mabton; three children, Julian Almaguer of Sunnyside, Lea Almaguer (Jesse Mendoza) of Yakima and Abel Almaguer of Portland, Ore.; her mother, Ofelia Gonzalez of Edinburg, Texas; nine grandchildren; her siblings, Elida Hernandez (Alvaro) of Peru, Oralia Gutierrez (Santana) and Joaquin Hernandez (Estella), both of Calif., Noemi Gonzalez and Baudelia Alaniz, both of Mabton, Samuel Hernandez of Yakima, Noe Hernandez of Granger, Dora Gutierrez (Porfidio) of Mabton, Irma Rivera (Abel) of Kennewick, Rolando Gonzalez (Olga) and Jesus Gonzalez, both of Texas.
She was preceded in death by parents; one son, Samuel Almaguer; an aunt who raised her, Maria Angelita Hernandez; eight siblings, Pedro Gonzalez Jr. , Israel Hernandez, Alejandro Hernandez, Oscar Hernandez, Elias Hernandez, Oralia Hernandez, Sarita Hernandez and Daniel Hernandez.
A evening service will be held today, June 2, 2009, at 6 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at 10 a.m. at Cornerstone Assembly of God in Sunnyside, with burial to follow at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside.
