Pedro "Pete" Zuniga, 85, of Kennewick and former long-time Sunnyside resident, passed away on Friday, June 5, 2009, at Tri-Cities Chaplaincy Hospice.
Pete was born Oct. 30, 1923 in San Juan, Texas, the son of Candelario and Filomena (Ramirez) Zuniga.
He received his education in Edinburg, Texas.
In 1940 the Zuniga family began migrating from Texas to Washington.
He later married Guadalupe Partida Gonzalez on Aug. 10, 1945 in Sunnyside. In 1945 they settled in Sunnyside. Pete began working for Newhouse Farms. He retired in 2000.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sunnyside.
He and Guadalupe, adopted, raised, loved and cared for four children.
Pete enjoyed listening to music, dancing, traveling throughout the Northwest and playing poker.
Pete was a avid Mariner and Seahawk fan.
He cherished time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by three children, Candelario "Cande" Zuniga (Roberta) of Minneapolis, Minn., Linda Lyons of Yakima and Laura Macias (Antonio) of Kennewick; six grandchildren, Melissa Morrow, Sean Morrow, Vanessa Richardson, Kennith Richardson Jr., Diego Zuniga and Perla Macias; two brothers, Julian Zuniga of Sunnyside and Teodoro Zuniga of Dallas, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Guadalupe Zuniga; one daughter, Annette M. Zuniga; three brothers, Pascual Rios, Nicholas Zuniga and Apolinar Rios; and three sisters, Martha Rios, Lupe Rios and Maria Singleterry.
Viewing and visitation will be held Tuesday, June 9, 2009, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 6 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sunnyside, with burial to follow at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens.
