The recent firing of City Manager Eric Swansen came as quite a shock. Who in their right mind hires someone to do a job, and only gives him 11 months of effort to do that job?
With this careless firing there are some questions somebody needs to have answers for. How long had this been planned? Were there any secret meetings? Who promised what to who? How does this help our city image? Does the council have somebody in mind to take over? Is he qualified? How can a recently appointed city council member make such a decision in such a short time? Were you talked into it? Was this all done legally?
These are all questions that the citizens of Sunnyside need answered.
When Eric Swansen was hired he brought a fresh, new atmosphere to city hall that hadn't been there before. He communicated well and listened with open ears. His main quality was that he was open to suggestions and didn't yell or talk down to you like previous leaders.
We didn't agree to everything, but at least we discussed all problems.
I hope Eric stays and puts up a fight for this injustice. He was handed a ship that was sinking, but when he went to steer the wheel he found out there were already other hands on the wheel! Could it be maybe the crew felt like they would rather swim than get rescued? Will we ever know?
