Sunnyside man pleads guilty to three charges stemming from September 2008 police chase

YAKIMA - Adrian B. Ozuna pled guilty to three charges last Friday in Yakima County Superior Court.

The 23-year-old Sunnyside man pled guilty to robbery in the first degree, assault in the second degree and attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle.

Ozuna is scheduled to be sentenced Friday, June 26, at 9 a.m. in Yakima County Superior Court.

The charges stem from an incident that happened in the early morning hours of Sept. 20, 2008. Sunnyside police were called to the 700 block of Yakima Valley Highway for a suspected weapons offense. As officers were receiving information about the call a vehicle believed to be associated with the weapons offense began speeding away from the scene, prompting officers to begin a pursuit.

The suspect vehicle failed to stop at 13 stop signs and drove twice the stated speed limit on residential streets. The driver also took the vehicle into oncoming lanes of traffic.

Once the vehicle was stopped Ozuna tried to hit a patrol car with his vehicle and then fled on foot, leading officers on a chase that went through the yards of several residences.

Ozuna was finally apprehended and officers determined the two occupants in his vehicle had been taken at gunpoint.
