Biker perishes in crash

GRANDVIEW - 23-year-old Hector Sosa-Ruiz was killed last Saturday evening as the result of a two-vehicle crash in Grandview.

Ruiz, a Mabton resident, was northbound on Wilson Highway inside the Grandview city limits aboard a 2007 Suzuki motorcycle at about 8:40 p.m. Saturday evening. Washington State Patrol troopers report that Ruiz's motorcycle was struck by a 2000 Chevrolet pick-up truck driven by Rafael M. Ruelas of Sunnyside.

Ruelas, said WSP troopers, was southbound on Wilson Highway and turned west onto Jackson Avenue. Ruelas, troopers explained, failed to yield to the oncoming motorcyclist and the two vehicles collided in the roadway.

Ruelas did not suffer any injuries in the mishap, and was able to drive his pick-up from the scene.

Ruiz was rushed to Sunnyside Community Hospital, but did not survive.

The WSP did not say if Ruelas faces any charges. Drugs or alcohol are not believed to be a factor.
