Grandview Council approves library funding

GRANDVIEW - Grandview City Council members decided last night (Monday) to approve funding for the joint library between the city and Yakima Valley Community College's Grandview campus.

The college received $2 million in funding from the state, but was tasked with raising matching funds. At this time, the college has raised about 82 percent of the funding.

Council members voted to commit up to $750,000 to make certain the $4 million mark will be reached.

During discussions, Councilman Jesse Palacios expressed concern if the city had to borrow money.

"As most of you know, I worry about our finances and where we're at financially," Palacios said. "If we borrow it, we're going to have to pay it back."

According to information provided by City Administrator Scott Staples, the city was notified earlier this month that it received credit approval for a loan of up to $900,000.

Efforts to raise additional funds to minimize the financial support needed from the city are currently underway by YVCC officials.
