OBITUARY

ESTHER JOAN FREEBURG

Esther Joan Freeburg, 88, of Sunnyside passed away Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, at Sunnyside Community Hospital.

She was born Feb. 22, 1921 to Hans Detlaf and Anna Katharine (Meissner) Kahler on the Dehenal Ranch in Ralston. She graduated from LaCrosse High School in 1939. On Thanksgiving Day, November 23, 1939, she married Lloyd A. Freeburg in the Parsonage of the Selbu Lutheran Church in LaCrosse.

She was an excellent homemaker, mother of three children and supporter of her husband. She assisted with the office work at the family owned soft water business for many, many years. She enjoyed cooking, reading, gardening and was very interested in the activities of her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the garden club, reading club and Eastern Star. She was a charter member and a very active member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, serving on church council and other committees until she was no longer able.

Esther will be remembered for her honesty, generosity, love and devotion to her family, caring of animals and immaculate housekeeping. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her son, David L. Freeburg (Jenny) of Sunnyside; two daughters, Katharine Swenson (Roger) of Monroe and Elizabeth S. Jones (Darryl) of Yakima; nine grandchildren, Charlie, Patrick, Chris, Jeff, Kim, Tana, Tori, Traci and Trista; 14 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Doris V. Kahler.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lloyd A. Freeburg; and one brother, Ronald H. Kahler.

Viewing and visitation will be held Friday, March 6, 2009, from 1 until 5 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 7, 2009, at 1 p.m. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Sunnyside. Interment will be held in LaCrosse Cemetery in LaCrosse.
