School District officials approve 2009-10 calendar

Sunnyside School District officials have approved the 2009-10 school year calendar.

School will start in 2009 on Monday, Aug. 31. School District Superintendent Rick Cole said the reason for the early start day is because it would be too late in the calendar year to start school after Labor Day, which falls on Sept. 7 in 2009.

Graduation day for high school seniors is slated for Friday, June 4.

Teacher inservice days are slated for Thursday, Aug. 27, Friday, Jan. 29, and Monday, June 14.

Teacher workshops are scheduled for Friday, Aug. 28, and Friday, June 11.

Thanksgiving vacation is from Wednesday, Nov. 25, through Friday, Nov. 27. Christmas break will be Dec. 21 through Jan. 1.

Spring break is Monday, March 29, through Friday, April 2.

Holidays in which there will be no school are as follows: Labor Day, Sept. 7, Veterans Day, Nov. 11, Martin Luther King Day, Jan. 18, President's Day, Feb. 15, and Memorial Day, May 31.
