County code enforcement

For many years the County has struggled with property owners who have no pride in the appearance of their property and no respect for the ordinances we enact to keep the County looking appealing.

Until recently, if a landowner was cited for a code violation, he was able to essentially ignore it and the County Code Department had no way of making them comply.

Things have changed! In 2008 the Commissioners amended the appropriate codes and put some teeth in the enforcement authority. We are now able to fine owners who ignore our citations and ultimately, we can now go to court and get an order allowing us to go onto the offending property and bill the owner for the cost of clean-up.

We have a long way to go; there are hundreds of cases now pending throughout the County but we feel it is a positive step in beautifying the Valley for the enjoyment of all who live in and visit the Yakima Valley.
