Men's club kicks off 2009 with scramble

Two teams walked away with top honors this past Sunday in the 2009 kick-off event sponsored by the Black Rock Creek Golf Course men's golf association.

Playing a scramble format, the three-man squads of Juan Guerrero, Randy Boast and Mel Herigstad; and Trini Madrigal, Wally Flores and Armando Garcia bested the field by shooting identical 6-under-par 66's. Each member of the two winning teams collected $32.50 in pro shop credit.

There was a three-way tie for third place honors, which netted each golfer $6 in pro shop earnings. Shooting identical 2-under-par 70's were the teams of Rick Mitoff, Loran Hancock and Mac Chambers; Bob Barker, Paul Hart and Ron Van Gundy; and Justin Bos, Troy Monholland and Lindyn Andreason.

In the net scoring column (actual score minus handicap), the top finishing team was the trio of Jason Eberle, Dennis Petrea and Art Pittillo. They carded a handicap-aided score of 49.34, good for $40 apiece in pro shop credit.

Earning runner-up honors with a handicap-aided 50 was the trio of Don Cardenas, Keith Ward and Stan Davis, netting each golfer $25 in pro shop credit. Placing third in the net division with a 51 were Allan Sandlin, Chuck Stegeman and Doc Storslee, good for $18 worth of pro shop merchandise for each golfer.

Flag event winners this past Sunday included Sandlin and Ely Gonzalez. Sandlin won KP honors on the par-3, 12th hole for golfers with handicaps of 11 to 19, by sticking his tee shot 13'7" from the cup. Gonzalez, for golfers with handicaps of 20 or more, won KP honors on the same hole with a tee shot that rolled to within 13'9" of the flag.
