Roland Ernest Beasley, 79, of Sunnyside died Thursday, March 5, 2009.

He was born Jan. 23, 1930 to William and Jessie Beasley in Waterloo, Iowa. He was the seventh of 11 children. He spent his childhood in different places in Iowa and Missouri.

At the age of 18, he joined the U.S. Army, serving his country while stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. There he met a young woman who would become his wife, Corina Johnson. Their seven children are Loretta, Glen, Jerry, Steve, Debbie, Cheryl and Kenny. In between their homes in Alaska and Missouri, they traveled through Seattle, deciding to call it home.

Living in Seattle, Roland gained employment at many tasks, finally working at Coast Transfer and Storage as a Teamster truck driver. He packed and shipped furniture and appliances as a warehouse man.

Through life's many turns, Roland and Corina met Jesus through two young daughters. Born again and serving God, it is said that life begins at 40. For Roland this was true. At 40 years of age, Roland surrendered his life to Jesus, never looking back. He loved God, his family and life. Soon his wife developed heart trouble and in her passing he found himself single again.

One day, through a blind date, Roland met the woman he would marry and spend the rest of his life with, Margaret Rentola (Bridgman). They set up home in Margaret's family house in Sunnyside. There they lived happily for 15 years, serving Christ together. Roland and Margaret attended Neighborhood Assembly of God Church and were very active in the church. In great health they lived their golden years.

Without warning, Roland developed spinal complications. He spent the last seven months fighting these complications, trying to attain the health he'd been blessed with for 78 years. Following his spinal surgery, Roland learned to walk again, gaining his independence and looking forward to going back to his home in Sunnyside. Unexpectedly, an unrelated illness took Roland's life on March 5, 2009, where he was called to a family reunion in Heaven with Jesus and his loved ones.

He leaves behind his wife, Margaret Beasley; and their families, three daughters, Loretta Davidson, Debbie Supalla and Cheryl Williams; three sons, Glen Beasley, Jerry Beasley and Steve Beasley; and five stepchildren, Anna Farrell, David Rentola, Ruth Cole, Anna Johnson and Victor Tom. All these children admired and loved Roland. He was a loving and kind husband to his wife, Margaret, a caring father and grandfather. He was also survived by 23 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; two sisters; his first wife, Corina Beasley; and youngest son, Kenneth Beasley.

Roland left his mark on this earth. In looking at his life, we can say that since his salvation, we've never heard a cross or disparaging word in 39 years. Roland was loved by all those who came to know him.

Dad, you just love on Jesus until we meet again in Heaven. We miss you!

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 16, 2009, at Neighborhood Assembly of God Church in Sunnyside.
