The fourth time was the charm for the Sunnyside High girls tennis team. Yesterday's match against visiting Kamiakin went the Lady Grizzlies' way. Sunnyside hosted the Braves and won 4-3.
The Sunnyside boys, on the other hand, suffered another disappointing loss, 7-0.
For the Lady Grizzlies, it was their first victory in four matches this season.
All three Lady Grizzly doubles teams won against Kamiakin.
No. 1 teammates Regina Mendez and Kiana Ramos handed a 6-4, 6-2 defeat to Kamiakin's Monica Slin and Michelle Stephens. Sunnyside's Avalon Valencia and Daniela Ramos earned a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Kamiakin's Kira Adamson and Jordan Taylor in No. 2 girls doubles action, and Lady Grizzly No. 3 players Alissa Martin and Rebekah Paulakis provided Brittany Green and Emma McConnel of Kamiakin a 6-0, 6-4 loss.
In No. 4 girls singles play, Christine Kim of Sunnyside won a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Nicole Bolten of Kamiakin.
Sunnyside girls No. 1 singles player Sasha Castro suffered a 6-1, 6-0 defeat to Ali Welch of the Braves, Lady Grizzly Cindy Gudino suffered a 6-2, 6-0 loss to Kamiakin's Sydney Obstag in No. 2 action, and Emily Smith of Kamiakin defeated Sunnyside No. 3 girls singles player Hannah Marro 6-1, 4-6, (10-5).
In boys play, Sunnyside No. 1 singles player Sven Breitrueck, No. 2 singles player Randy DeRuyter, No. 3 singles player Joey Zijlstra and No. 4 singles player Anthony Rodriguez all suffered straight set losses of 6-0 to the Braves.
Sunnyside boys doubles teammates Matt Johnson and Jorge Pacheco lost their first set 6-4, rallied for a 6-2 win in the second set, but dropped the third set 6-1 to Kamiakin's Matt Huisingh and Collin Bampton in No. 1 action.
The Grizzlies' No. 2 boys doubles team of Jeromy Rodriguez and Jessie Leija were handed a 6-0, 6-2 defeat by Brandon Heath and Kakota Anderson of the Braves, and Kamiakin No. 3 doubles players Caleb Shanon and Travis Tingey defeated Sunnyside's Spencer Jacquish and Daniel Wavrin 6-3, 6-4.
The Grizzlies will pick up their rackets to host Davis this coming Thursday at 3 p.m.
