Equipment failure leaves Mabton residents without power

The city of Mabton was without electrical power yesterday, Monday, for just over three hours due to equipment failure.

Tom Gauntt, a spokesman for Pacific Power, said the outage was caused when a cross arm holding up power lines gave out. This caused the wires to fall to the ground, which left 812 Mabton homes without power from 2:50 p.m. to 6:07 p.m.

Another power outage was reported in Grandview at 8:07 a.m. today, Tuesday, which affected 550 customers. As of press time there was no clear reason for the outage, which Gauntt said could mean it was a short. He said crews will work on fixing the problem and then figure out the cause later.

Gauntt said the 550 affected Grandview residents should have had their power restored by 11:30 a.m.
