OBITUARY

MARIA GUADALUPE POLINA

Maria Guadalupe "Lupe" Polina, 45, of Sunnyside our beloved wife, daughter, mother and friend passed away suddenly, Wednesday, April 29, 2009, in Yakima.

She was born Sept. 23, 1963 in Elsa, Texas to Jose Blas and Margarita (Villanueva) Polina.

She received her education in Granger, graduating with the class of 1983.

Lupe was employed at the Washington State Migrant Council day care in Sunnyside for five years, Chatterbox Pizza in Sunnyside for three years, K-Mart in Sunnyside for 13 years, K-Mart in Yakima two years and was most recently employed at Shopko in Union Gap.

Lupe enjoyed collecting Coka-Cola memorabilia, going to the casino and watching The Young and the Restless.

She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Granger, Sunnyside Eagles and the Sunnyside bowling team "Looney Tunes".

Lupe was a volunteer for the March of Dimes for 13 years.

Lupe cherished her family and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her husband, Joe Martinez of Sunnyside; three daughters, Esperanza Martinez, Jerika Martinez and Jessica Martinez, all of Sunnyside; her mother, Margarita Villanueva of Toppenish; seven sisters, Susana (Lupe) Bocanegra of Granger, Mary (Junior) Ramirez and Benita (Opi) Perez, all of Toppenish, Teresa (Roy) Cardenas of Granger, Sofia Ramirez and Demetria (Roberto) Lopez, all of Pasadena, Texas and Maggie Perez of Wapato; one step-son, Jessie Martinez of Outlook; her mother-in-law, Esperanza Solis of Hermiston, Ore.; sisters-in-law, Anna Marie Martinez of Yakima, Rosie Martinez of Toppenish, Teresa Martinez, Rebeca Martinez and Isabel Martinez, all of Hermiston, Ore.; one brother-in-law, Arturo Martinez of Federal Way; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; her good friends, Barb Chiatovich and Dorothy Lopez; and three canine companions, Roxy, Bandit "Horse" and Pepe.

We love you Lupe and we will miss you.

She was preceded in death by her father; three brothers, Jose "Pepe" Polina Jr., Agustin Polina and Carlos Polina.

Viewing and visitation will be held Monday, May 4, 2009, from 1 to 8 p.m., with a Rosary to be recited at 6 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Granger, with burial to follow at Zillah Cemetery.
