Emerald Road mobile home burns late Monday morning

A fire believed to have been started by a young child playing with matches destroyed half of a mobile home in the 8700 block of Emerald Road yesterday, Monday.

Two Yakima County Fire District No. 5 stations responded to the blaze at 11:20 a.m. On arrival fire crews found that property owner Lupe Gomez had already knocked down most of the fire.

The 11 personnel from YCFD No. 5 then finished extinguishing the fire and overhauled the structure.

The fire started in the back bedroom and all contents in that room were lost. Also lost were five family birds.

According to the fire report there were no working smoke detectors in the home. No one was injured in the fire.

The fire was controlled in 15 minutes and $15,000 in damage was reported.
