Allan Dale Hendricks, 59, of Mabton passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2009, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He received his education in Mabton at Artz-Fox Elementary school and later attended Mabton High school. On Nov. 23, 1974 he married Rhonda McQueen at the Mabton Grace Brethren Church.
Allan served in the U.S. Marines for a short term receiving a medical discharge.
Allan went on to work for the Idaho Forest Service, various farmers, BREA Ag Services in Toppenish and received the Far West Fertilizer Association Outstanding Serviceman's Award in 1981.
In 1984 he joined partnership with Loren Skidmore at Skidmore Brothers Farm in Mabton. After Loren's retirement, Allan continued farming the same land as Allan Hendricks Farm. Allan drove truck for Sartin Trucking and later Ron Smith and most recently driving for Don Gillihan until October of 2008, when he retired due to his failing health.
Driving and maintaining his semi's did not seem like work to him, it was his passion.
He enjoyed snowmobiling, driving 4-wheelers and jeep trips with many friends and family, taking pictures and editing them on his computer.
He was a member of the Tollgate Trail finders Snowmobile Club, and president of the 4-H and FFA support groups for several years. He also received Honorary Chapter Farmer Award from the FFA Mabton Chapter.
Allan was very determined to fight his failing health to allow him to spend as much time as he could with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Rhonda Fay McQueen Hendricks of Mabton; one daughter, Amy Louise Hendricks (Juan Castro) of Granger; a granddaughter, Bianca Castro and a grandson, Naithan Castro; he also considered Yolanda Alvarez Zavala (Patricio Zavala) as a daughter; his sisters, Mary Gefre-Link of Kennewick, Sharon Lynne Zecchino (Jose Salinas) of Granger, Bev Jones (Paul) of Yakima; and his mother-in-law, Lois Skidmore McQueen of Mabton.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Viewing and visitation will be held Thursday, May 21, 2009, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 22, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside, with burial to follow at Mabton Cemetery.
