GRANDVIEW - Less than two weeks after being introduced to Grandview Chamber of Commerce members, Gary Avery resigned from his post as executive director.
Acting Grandview Chamber of Commerce Board President Joan Souders said, "He realized he didn't have as much time as he originally thought to devote to the position."
She said Avery's personal business met with some challenges he needed to address, and he expressed a willingness to be fair to the chamber and its members.
Avery is an independent insurance broker, serving the insurance needs of grocery stores across the state.
"He felt it would be better if he allowed us to find someone who could give the chamber the time and attention it needs," said Souders, stating the Chamber of Commerce board accepted Avery's resignation with understanding.
In the meantime, Souders said the Grandview Chamber of Commerce board, which consists of volunteers from throughout the community, is working to meet the needs of Grandview. She said the group is taking steps toward promoting events, such as the annual parade, and giving the chamber of commerce a solid direction.
"We are addressing areas within the chamber that have not been looked at for several years in hopes of making sure the executive director position is comfortable for whomever does fill the spot," said Souders.
