SELAH - Grandview's Rogi Fajardo has advanced to State competition following District tennis tourney play this past Saturday in Selah.
"Rogi played tough throughout the day on Saturday," said Grandview Coach Ronda Penwell. "It was a very hot day making it a difficult task to play competitively in three matches.
"Despite this, Rogi pushed through and played extremely well."
Fajardo got off to a rough start, falling to Ellensburg's Aaron Porter 6-0, 6-2, but Fajardo rallied in his second match against Quincy's Blake Van Dyke. Fajardo defeated Van Dyke 6-0, 6-2.
Fajardo went on to defeat Ephrata's Tyler Van Heusden 6-2, 6-1, garnering the District's third seed to State, which takes place at the University of Washington beginning this coming Friday.
Lady 'Hound Gabby Sauve didn't advance past Saturday's District play, falling to Ephrata's Chloe Schmidt 7-6, (7-5), 6-2.
Said Penwell, "This was her first year playing singles and since she's a sophomore, we have several more to look forward to."
