QUINCY - Grandview Coach Jim Pillers couldn't say enough about Jordan Sanchez after this past Saturday's CWAC District meet in Quincy.
Sanchez earned a spot at the 2A State meet to be staged in Pasco this coming Saturday, after clocking a time of 17:50 for 10th place honors.
The top 15 harriers at District will be among those competing in the State competition.
This past Saturday, said Pillers, Sanchez outpaced approximately 20 competitors who had beaten him to the finish line earlier in the season. The winner of the race was Eduardo Torres of Wapato, clocking 16:57.
"I think Jordan's family helped him run to his potential...the support of spectators is always encouraging," said Pillers, stating Sanchez had a number of relatives cheering him on along the 3.1 miles of the course.
He competed in a field of 68 CWAC harriers and "...he got back (to State) after three years," said the coach.
"We're really happy...he won honorable mention for the league...we know what Jordan has to do at State and we will train all week," Pillers shared, stating Sanchez's accomplishment is something he has worked to achieve all season.
As for the rest of the Greyhounds, Pillers said Koty Kollmar finished his season with a time of 19:13.04 for 35th place honors, Javier Neri earned 43rd place honors, clocking a time of 19:45, Enrique Ochoa clocked 25:28 and Milagro Castilleja finished the race in a time of 27:09.
"The rest of the team was happy to finish the season...they were satisfied with their race," said Pillers.
He said Kollmar was disappointed he didn't qualify for State, but felt he ran the best race he could have Saturday.
Neri will return as a team leader for the 2010 season. "He will carry the load," commented Pillers, stating the team goal is to grow the number of competitors for Grandview.
This coming Saturday's State 2A meet is slated for 1:30 p.m. in Pasco.
