American Legion Sunnyside Post #73 will celebrate Veterans Day with a dinner for its members and their guests on Monday, Nov. 9, at the Sunnyside VFW hall, located on North Avenue.
"The American Legion can afford one dinner a year," explained Commander Walter George as to why there is no cost.
The menu, cooked up by the Sunnyside VFW Ladies Auxiliary, will feature roast pork, mashed potatoes, veggies and apple crisp for dessert.
Sunnyside students who attended Boys and Girls State at Central Washington University last summer will be on hand to discuss their adventures at the weeklong event that teaches the ins and outs of government.
"It's a weeklong school where students learn about government. It starts with county, state and federal (levels). They choose their own representative, they write their own bills and things like that so they have an understanding of government," George explained.
He said the dinner is a chance for the post to honor its veterans. It's also a chance for the younger generation to "share our day," said George. "It's a good way for them to understand about veterans, too."
The dinner begins at 6:30.
