It was a pretty good season for the Sunnyside High School Grizzly freshman football team. The Grizzly cubs finished the season with a record of 8-1, the best this year in the CBBN.
In the Grizzlies' last game of the season they beat West Valley 39-7. Sunnyside was led by quarterback Eduardo Salmeron, who threw for three touchdowns on 12-for-19 passing and 196 yards. Salmeron completed all of his passes in the first half. Sunnyside elected to only run the ball in the second half. He also ran for one score in the West Valley game.
Running back Ramon Hernandez also scored two touchdowns for Sunnyside. He rumbled for 185 yards on 24 carries and a touchdown. He also caught a 19-yard touchdown pass.
Also catching touchdown passes were Eric Amarro, who caught three passes for 41 yards, and Brandon Daley, who had a 14-yard touchdown catch. Sunnyside's Darrin White also ran for a 15-yard touchdown in the game.
"This was a great season," Sunnyside Coach Darren Mezger said. "I'm proud of these kids. I look forward to what they can do in the future."
