I took several calls from local residents yesterday, seething and quite vocal about the news that two Sunnyside City Hall employees have been placed on administrative leave. The rumor mill has it that the administrative leaves are a prelude to the two being canned.
We here at the Daily Sun News would like to inform our readers of the situation, but as expected, City Manager Jim Bridges isn't talking. That's not a surprise, given the litigious nature of our world today.
About the only thing Bridges will do at this point is confirm Human Resources Manager Terri Rhode and Administrative Assistant Pam Sandifer are the ones who have departed city hall.
Oddly, a couple of the calls I received yesterday were from folks who were either directly involved or solidly behind the not-so-distant past actions that cost several city employees their jobs. You remember those folks...City Manager Leo Fancey, Police Chief Wallace Anderson, Fire Chief Jim Stanton, Finance Director Bud Schatz, Parks & Rec Director Tom Byers.
Back when those fine folks were forced from their jobs, we were told, basically, that unless we were part of the inner circle, we didn't have all the information and weren't in a position to judge if the firings were warranted.
The same holds true todday!
Who among us knows what has transpired at city hall? Certainly not me, and most likely it's not the people calling me up voicing their complaints.
Here's a thought...until you've been made privy to everything that has occurred at city hall, clam up and let the people in the know handle the situation. That's why we elect our leaders and pay extremely well the people who oversee these problems. Let's allow them to do their jobs.
In the meantime, we here at the Daily Sun News will continue to work to bring the real story to you. But please, let's wait until the facts have been revealed before we choose up sides and cast our stones.
