Margarito E. Cortinez, 61, of Sunnyside passed away Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, while visiting family near Los Angeles, Calif.

Margarito was born Oct. 17, 1948 in Guerrero, Mexico. He moved from Mexico to Sunnyside 38 years ago. He worked as a laborer in agriculture.

Margarito was a devoted husband, stepdad, grandfather, uncle and friend. Margarito loved his family and many friends. He was always willing to help out his family and friends at a moments notice.

He loved barbeques, dancing and playing with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Rosario Cortinez of Sunnyside; his children Cande Alvarez of Sunnyside, Angie Alvarez of Selah, Janie (Rick) Gutierrez of Gleed, Salvador (Rosa) Alvarez, Jr. and Ramon (Maricela) Alvarez, all of Yakima, Enoc Alvarez of Los Angeles, Calif. and Joe (Lupita) Alvarez of Phoenix, Ariz.; one brother, Augustine Arteaga of Sunnyside; one sister, Eloisa Montoya of Sunnyside; numerous grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Margarito was preceded in death by his mother, Engracia Del Pilar.

Viewing will be held Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home, 1010 W. Yakima Ave., Yakima. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009, at 1:30 p.m. at Yakima First Presbyterian Church, 9 South Eighth Avenue, Yakima, with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery in Yakima
